Linking individual ecological dynamics to the Greening of the Arctic: remote sensing as hero, villain, and redeemer

Dr Jeff Kerby, Scott Polar Research Institute Cambridge Fluids Network - fluids-related seminars 21 November 2024 4:00pm Scott Polar Research Institute, main lecture theatre The Arctic is warming at four times the global average and concurrent with warming, satellite observations show a greening of the land surface. Remote sensing provides essential insights into broad-scale ecological dynamics in the Arctic, but can also contribute to environmental narratives that do not always correspond with observations from the field. Here I discuss Arctic greening, and introduce ongoing projects that explore top-down and bottom-up drivers of terrestrial vegetation change across multiple scale domains.
