Unifying accretion and ejection in black hole X-ray binaries

Greg Marcel Cambridge Fluids Network - fluids-related seminars 10 May 2023 1:15pm The Hoyle Lecture Theatre + Zoom The life cycles of black hole X-ray binaries has been observed for 50 years and yet it remains a mystery. I will introduce and explain the many different features that black hole X-ray binaries show and will highlight how little we understand to this day. I will then introduce and show the results of my own paradigm to try to explain two of its major components: the accretion disk and the jets. I will then talk about the variability and time-lags we observe in the different X-ray bands where we observe them, as well as how my own paradigm could reproduce them.
